Commentary Regarding Books Touching Darkness (Midnighters #2)
Jessica and Jonathan are a great pair. Love the series.

The novel I read for Unit Four was Midnighters: Touching Darkness by Scott Westerfeld. In Bixby Oklahoma for one hour every night time freezes, everything and everyone stops. That is everyone except the Midnighters. Following the conclusion of the first book, Midnighter: The Secret Hour, Jessica Day is still getting use to life in her new school and life in the secret hour, but at least she can protect herself with her new found powers, bringing fire into the Blue Time. But now it seems like

One thing that really has bothered me about this series so far is that we arent getting enough of the extras. The things that arent the direct plot, like characters and how they appear & such, world building, character building. I want to know more about the families of the midnighters. Like, what happened to Rexs dad, what did they do to him? What about Melissa and her parents? I just want to know more. Overall though the book was good, a LOT better than the first one. For some reason,

I'm positive I read this!

I started this book a while ago and then had to return it before I could finish it. I finally got around to checking it out again.I did not expect the book to end the way it did. I'm not complaining, but I'm also surprised.Rex and Melissa's relationship reminds me of Kaz and Inej from Six of Crows.

This was just okay to me. I don't know--maybe asking this to follow Middlemarch was just to set it up for failure. It was just okay. The writing is fine, the plot moves along well, there are several tense situations and last-minute rescues, and the antagonists are creepy. I really like Scott Westerfeld, so I definitely think it's just me. If you like YA, an interesting premise, or Scott Westerfeld, don't let me hold you back. Go on--read--enjoy!

"Touching Darkness" follows up on "Midnighters" almost immediately. Jessica having discovered she is light bringer, torch user is a powerful and deadly midnighter that the Darklings feared. But its Dess who keeps discovering more about the Midnight hour and how it affects all of them including the town of Bixby itself. This book never lets off the accelerator giving us almost continuous action which is very cool. Jessica is being stalked by some unknown party. Rex and Melissa are finding love
