Do you still think that life here in the Deep South is grand? If youre a slave, it sure aint. If youre White, maybe so.Author A.L. Pre civil war short storyThis was a really great book on slavery before the civil war told almost in journal form from a young teenage girls view. It tells how slaves were just as smart as their masters, if not smarter, except they had to play the part of ignorant and dumb, so as to not get punished or sold. The start of what I hope is a great series.

Astounding portrayal of a young slave.I have chosen a fove star rating because this book to riveted me to every page. Well written and executed in a manner consistent with the modern black view on slavery on the south. Isply loved this book and want more about Neffies life.

The dialogue and narrative voice are what really impacted me from the beginning with The Chronicle of Neffie and find a way right to my heart. Theres no doubting the vision Gibson had with the book and the profound effect it had on me and will no doubt have on so many other readers as well. The reality of the story, especially considering it is loosely based on real life, hits with a punch and left me gasping at some of the vivid scenes, but the humanity at play as well made it a real

Not that greatSlaves dont talk like Neffie. The narration is too modern for slavery. Th ed venture book I'd about Massa Sanderson trying to sleep with Neffie really.
